Scarlet & Violet DLC: The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk

Scarlet and Violet received two paid expansions, sold together as the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. They are optional, and both are playable only after you reach a certain point in the base game.

The Teal Mask

The first expansion, The Teal Mask (released September 13, 2023), sends you to Kitakami, a rural region reached on a school trip. It adds a new story, a new overworld full of local Pokémon, and a new set of characters, and it introduced the Grass-type legend Ogerpon.

The expansion also brought back Pokémon from earlier generations and introduced a few new species, along with a new Pokédex of its own. Kitakami feels distinct from Paldea: it is smaller, more pastoral and built around festival traditions.

The Indigo Disk

The second expansion, The Indigo Disk (released December 14, 2023), takes you to Blueberry Academy, a new school with a vast artificial biome called the Terarium. It adds a larger set of returning Pokémon and a competitive-style league challenge that tests your team.

It also introduced the Stellar Tera Type, which first appears on Terapagos. Stellar is unique because it does not behave like a regular type: it boosts every move a Pokémon uses once for each type, rather than one type only.

Planning your DLC playthrough

Both expansions are built for trainers who have already finished the main story, so expect wild Pokémon and opponents to hit harder than they did in early Paldea. Arrive with a full team of Pokémon you have raised, rather than trying to scrape through with a few favorites.

We suggest playing the expansions in the order they were released. The Teal Mask is the gentler introduction, with a self-contained trip to Kitakami, and The Indigo Disk gives your team a more competitive finish at Blueberry Academy. Nothing stops you from alternating between the DLC and the base game, so treat the post-game as a place to try new team ideas.

Before you start, make sure your party covers a wide range of types. The new areas introduce many familiar Pokémon from earlier generations, so a balanced team is more useful than a lineup built around one idea. If you plan to hunt for a particular Pokémon, check our linked Pokémon pages for types and weaknesses before you set out.

Practical tips

  • Bring healing items and a spare Pokémon for each major type, since the new areas have a mixed set of wild Pokémon.
  • Use a picnic in Kitakami or the Terarium to reset your team between battles instead of leaving the area.
  • Keep your Tera Types varied. Stellar is a special case and works differently from every other type, so experiment with it on a Pokémon you already trust.

Access and release

The Teal Mask was released on September 13, 2023.

The Indigo Disk was released on December 14, 2023.

Both expansions are bought separately from the base game. Check that you have beaten the main story to a certain point before you buy, since the DLC entrance is locked until then.

  • The expansions added new Pokémon, including Ogerpon, Terapagos and Pecharunt.
  • Many Pokémon in the DLC can be transferred or traded, which makes them useful for completing a collection.
